The smallest Italian municipality by extension, is located in the northwestern part of the island of Elba, a small pearl overlooking the sea with a rich scrubland of chestnut, pine and ilex.
It was born from an ancient fishing village that settled first in the Cotton district, from the Latin "Cos", "Cotis" which means rock, cliff, a natural harbor and then extends along the seafront up to the Torre degli Appiani, symbol of the country.
Over the years fishing and agriculture, the main livelihood activities, have given way to tourist activity and the small town has developed considerably, but maintaining its characteristic of picturesque seaside village with its narrow alleys "neighborhoods" and with its colorful houses overlooking the sea.
